And now...(drum roll)...our favorite place:
Renninger's Antique Center & Farmer's Flea Market
Renninger's is a huge indoor/outdoor antique center located on 115 acres on the east side of Hwy. 441 just east of Mount Dora in Lake County, Florida. There's free parking for over 6,000 cars.
There are over 150 individual dealers each overseeing their own shop on the premises. Here you'll find the gamut from Roseville pottery to antique linens. There's rows and rows of merchandise and from what we experienced, most dealers are willing to bargain. It's just a whole lot of quality antiques under one roof. Most of the dealers are in the enclosed building and will accept checks and credit cards.
Renninger's is also home to the largest antique shows in the Southeast. 11 weekends a year, collectors and dealers from all over the country come together at Renninger's to offer an amazing selection of antiques and collectibles.
Next to the Antique and Collectibles Center is Renninger's Farmer's & Flea Market with over 700 merchants. The indoor facility offers fresh produce, seafood, groceries, carpet, crafts, luggage and other goods. Outside vendors offer foliage, furniture, leather goods and new and used merchandise.
Open every Saturday & Sunday. Antique Center: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Flea Market: 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tel: 352.383.8393. Website: www.renningers.com.
After exhausting ourselves at Renninger's, it was time to head home. We said goodbye to this quiet little town and made our way back to the big city.
Next time you need a quiet getaway weekend, a charming bed and breakfast, some great antiques and serene surroundings, think Mount Dora. You'll be glad you did.
